New Year, New Goals?

Creating New Year Positive Change

 

 

 

Yes, its that time of year again.  A time to reflect on the past and a time to make new year resolutions......Have you made yours yet?  New Years resolutions are often filled with good intentions and hope for better times, but sometimes, come February, our goals and dreams can seem far away.

What are the reasons why resolutions don¿t stick?

*The goal can be too unrealistic and can cause us to feel overwhelmed

*The goal is not attached to your bigger vision

*There is no plan or strategy in place to achieve the goal

*The plans can be externally motivated; they¿re what someone else thinks you should do or want.

 

Ask yourself what do you want for the year ahead. Some questions to get you thinking:

 

*What is a major thing you would like to improve in 2010?

*What would you like more of?

*What would you like less of?

*How would you like your life to be different in 2010?

 

There are hundreds of ideas available to you, so once you have had a serious think, it is very important to set clear and very specific goals.  An example of being specific is ¿I will have $2000 in my savings account by x/x/xx, not I want to make more money.

Once you are clear on what you want, write it down. This part is absolutely crucial.  This is the most important step in the commitment process.  A goal not written down is merely a wish.  Keep your goals where you see them every day, on the fridge, screensaver, bathroom mirror etc. 

There is a wonderful old saying: whatever you can conceive and believe you can achieve!

 

If you want to create positive change in the New Year here are some tips to help you increase your chances of success:

 

 

*Choose a resolution that you feel is manageable, yet still challenging

*Be clear that your resolution is something YOU want

*Be sure your goal is in line with your personal vision

*Create a system of accountability, enlist the help of a friend or employ a coach

 

I hope these tips help you to improve your life in 2010. Here is to your best year yet!
